Beyond her incredible singing voice and her artistic creativity, Giovanni von Essen also possesses a natural charisma and that "it" factor that not only draws in the audiences that come to see her perform, but also the audiences that come to listen to her lectures. There is no doubt that her ability to make those around her feel instantly comfortable, as if they have been friends for years, is a powerful contributor to her appeal..
Giovanni attended the Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she graduated in 1991 with a B.A. in Theatre. However, her love for music and singing soon took her on a journey that would see her traveling through Europe and even Asia, absorbing the different cultures and becoming an incredibly effective communicator in the process.
The struggles of the women musicians that paved the way before her have always been a strong interest of Giovanni's, and is the reason why she is an avid student of women's history in jazz. That, along with her extensive global travels and the fact that she is a mother of two well cultured young ladies gives her the unique perspective to be able to lecture on the topics that she speaks about.
