Presenter Biography

Described by some members of the mass media as, “a jazz star on the rise”, award winning saxophonist and Tierra Records recording artist Shenole Latimer has steadily gained recognition for his playing style and engaging stage presence. Through the course of his career, Shenole has had the privilege of sharing the stage with noted Jazz musicians such as Jon Faddis, Todd Coolman, Ron Affif, E.J. Strickland, Derek Gardner, Rufus Reid, Dan Faulk, Vincent Herring, Willard Dyson, Dion Parson, Ray Anderson and Gerry Neiwood, and has even opened for Cecil Brooks III, Renee Rosnes, Christian McBride, Larry Coryell, and J.D. Allen.

As a college undergraduate student, Shenole Latimer received his first jazz instruction from Todd Coolman, the esteemed jazz bassist who was the Director of Jazz Studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Latimer was often called on by Todd Coolman to represent the university by performing in an array of special functions, concerts, and by even giving educational lectures and clinics to middle school and high school students within the surrounding school districts.

Since graduating with a B.A. in music from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2001, Shenole Latimer maintains an active performance schedule and has also become a highly sought after lecturer and clinician in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut Tri-State area. Latimer has given numerous lectures in libraries across the region, as well as educational clinics and master classes in various grade schools, middle schools, high schools, and universities.
