"Certainly an artist to watch, Jo Williamson has a lot of music to offer to an even broader audience" writes online journal Musical Discoveries in their review of New York based singer-songwriter Jo Williamson's debut EP/album "Wake on the Hudson" released in February 2008. "Her well-honed and wide vocal range...has a lovely crystalline quality and works well with simple acoustic arrangements." Bob Johnson of WPKN 89.5 in Bridgeport, Connecticut has likened her voice and music to that of a young Judi Collins. Jo has found inspiration in recent years from artists Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens, Martha Wainwright, church hymns, Maria Callas, Sarah Vaughn, innumerable New York artists and her experiences in the theater.
An army brat, singer-songwriter Jo Williamson spent her childhood moving all over the United States and Europe living on different military bases with her family. She fell in love with performance at the age of five when she played Narrator Number One in her kindergarten class production of "Peter Rabbit". At the age of 18 she moved to New York to formally study theater and music. It was here she started playing guitar and writing songs.
"Wake on the Hudson" was conceived and written on her friends' 66 foot Canadian fishing boat docked on the Jersey side of the Hudson over the course of two years. During this time, Jo Williamson learned much from working/collaborating with musicians/composers: Charlie Porter, Faye Ellen Silverman, Tony Geballe, Brent Arnold, Jim Campilongo, Shari Anderson and Ann Ellsworth. She currently performs in and around the tri-state area.
